A Quick Tour of 'Julie' (N4261J)

I seem to have left the cylinder 2 baffling, complete with oil-air cooler dangling from the wing-step. This is also a good shot of Julie's flaps... The piper has Straight-mechanical Johnson bar flaps (there's a parking-brake-like lever in the cabin which directly moves the flaps up and down)... I find this solution INFINITELY more elegant than the Cessna Electric flaps - A, they're MUCH faster, B - you have much more control over what flap setting you're reaching for. Its really a cool sensation to drop the flaps quickly and feel the plane 'balloon' up 10 or 15 feet in a few seconds (also, manual flaps help in crosswind landings, because you can release the flaps the second you land to help get weight on the main gear asap.). For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, the flaps are the long strip at the back of the wing, there's one on each side, they go downward to help deflect more air down (increase lift) as well as forward (increase drag) to help the plane land slower. 6/17/06 7:50 PM
